Forever, Ever begins with a memory: identical garments, stacked in tiers by size on the workbenches of her parents' garment factory in Seoul in the 2000s. It begins, too, with a bodily sensation folding and hanging clothes like a machine, keeping pace with the speed of contemporary fashion.
From that memory and that sensation, Oori Apparel draws a method. Folding, hanging, stacking gestures repeated throughout the garment industry and the standardized sizing system, reduced to XS through XL, are translated into a sculptural methodology, read through the language of landscape.
The resulting sculptures borrow the structure and detail of clothing, but they never wait to be worn by anyone. They are active forms that exist in their own right. Through these garment-sculptures, liberated from the body, Oori Apparel questions the point where human passivity and agency intersect within contemporary systems.
